Dato' Sri Ir. Dr. Zaini bin Ujang is a national figure for his contribution as a public administrator, professional environmental engineer, academician, innovator, author and environmentalist in Malaysia. He became the youngest Vice-Chancellor in the history of public university in Malaysia, when he was appointed at the age of 43. He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering, earned his M.Sc. and PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle, U.K. and also an alumni of Harvard Business School for Advanced Management Program in U.S.A. His academic experience encompasses strategic and corporate leadership, institutional restructuring, innovation ecosystem, and research profiling. During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor (2008-2013) of UTM, he has initiated various research collaborations between UTM and prestigious universities such as Harvard, MIT, Imperial College, Kyoto, Tsukuba, Cambridge and Oxford. Zaini was appointed as the Secretary General in charge of higher education for Malaysia in 2013 and chaired a technical committee to develop the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint (2016-2025), and playbooks on funding, governance, research and quality frameworks for public higher education institutions in Malaysia. In 2016, Zaini moved on to become the Secretary General for the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water. He spearheaded a team to develop Malaysia Green Technology Master Plan (2017-2030). In short, his assignment is to lead the Ministry to innovate and manage resources strategically to ensure availability, reliability and affordability of energy and water services and to advance the application of green technology to as well as promoting Green Economy and Green Living. As an accomplished writer, Zaini has published more than 300 scientific papers (more than 100 published in indexed international journals), 38 books and more than 2,000 general articles on environment, innovation and higher education. Zaini is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (UK), Felow of the Institute of Chemical Engineering (UK), Fellow of the Royal Physiographic Society of Lund (Sweden), Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (Malaysia), Fellow of the Academy of Sciences (Malaysia).
Emeritus Prof. Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim received his early education at Clifford Primary School and Malay College Kuala Kangsar. He continued his A-Levels at Swansea College of Further Education in Wales UK. He then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK. In 1992 he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Emeritus Prof. Mohd Azraai started his career with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on November 30, 1983 as a Senior Lecturer and various other administrative positions at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. He then held various senior positions at UTM such as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Dean of the School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Managing Director and CEO of UTMSPACE. On February 15, 2019 he was appointed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia as Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Emeritus Prof. Mohd Azraai is an Environmental Engineering (Waste Water Management) specialist and has published 155 papers in high impact journals and proceedings. He has also published two books. To date, he has carried out five international research projects, 21 national research projects and 19 consultancy projects.
Zeti Kasman has more than 18 years’ experience in technical and interpersonal training skills and facilitating successful technical Training Programs. She obtained her Higher National Diploma in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from De Montfort University, Leicester in 1997, B.Eng (Instrumentation System & Electronic) in 2008 from IUCTT and M. Eng (Management) in 2014 from UPM. She started her technical academic career in Manpower Department Institutions in 2001 in Computer Engineering and has extensively involved in training research and planning for the past 14 years in Motivational & Self Development Programs, Technical Skills Program. She has appointed as a consultant for Human Resources Development Center (HRDC) Malaysia in Training Need Analysis program and experienced trainer skilled in interpersonal skills and facilitating successful technical training programs for trainee of up to 5000 participants. She conducted a company support mainly using CUDBAS methodology to increase the productivity and organization continuous improvement (KAIZEN). She is expert in developing training materials and presenting programs in a stimulating manner using a combination of personality, multimedia and group exercises.
Dr. Noraini Hamzah is currently Head of Industry and Community Partnership of Engineering & Built Environment Faculty, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and a senior lecturer in Department of Civil & Structural Engineering, UKM. She graduated in Bachelor of Civil Engineering from UKM and Masters of International Construction Management and Engineering (ICME) from University of Leeds (UK) in 2002. She successfully obtained her PhD in Project Management from the University Malaya (UM), in 2014. Dr. Noraini has over 10 years experience in both academia and industry practice ever since she’s joining UKM in 2000 as a tutor. Her current research interest is mainly towards environmental & sustainability issue focusing on Green Building, Green R&R, sustainable assessment scheme for refurbishment of heritage buildings, BIM implementation in project management, building pathology and project quality management. She has delivered more than 20 courses in PM, civil design and building maintenance; and authored 3 project management modules and a few chapters in book. She also has been actively publishing in local and international conferences. She also assisted in the production of procedural manuals for Malaysia i.e. EAC Accreditation Manual, Asset Rating Manual by JKR and PM Manual for KPM. She’s been certified as Qualified Professional (QP) for MyCREST (Malaysian Carbon Reduction and Environmental Sustainability Tool) in 2017 and has become MyCREST Assessor in early this year of 2019 and currently she is taking a QLASSIC (Quality Assessment System for Building Construction Works) training under CIDB to become a QLASSIC assessor.
Ir. Dr. Mohd Khairol Anuar Mohd Ariffin is currently a Professor and was Head of Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing from 2012-2015, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He earned his B.Eng degree in Manufacturing System Engineering, Northumbria University, UK, M.Sc of Manufacturing Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Ph.D from University of Sheffield, UK. He obtained his Professional qualification in Industrial engineering in 2013. His research interests include System Optimisation, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Automation and Robotics, CAD/CAM and Composite Machining. He has published more than 150 journals and conference papers. So far he has managed RM 2 million research grant. He is also highly involved with industrial research and managed to secure three patents from this research.
Sharifah Allyana bt Syed Md Rahim graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2004 and she obtained her Master of Highway and Transportation Engineering in 2013 from the same university. She began her carrier in road safety research in the year 2005 when she joined Road Safety Research Centre (RSRC) in UPM as a Research Assistant. In the year 2007, she started working as a Research Officer at the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). As one of the pioneer at MIROS, she has wide experience in road safety research and her main interests of research are accident data analysis and modelling, blackspot identification and countermeasure; and road safety audit. She has carried out many research since then and are highly involved in the Automated Enforcement System (AES) programme in relation with accident prone area determination; calibration, verification and homologation of automated enforcement camera and as well as the evaluation study of AES. She was the Acting Director for Road Safety Engineering & Environment Research Center at MIROS for two year from July 2013 to April 2015. She is now the Head of Unit for the Accident Database System & Analysis Unit at MIROS. She was also appointed as the National Data Coordinator for the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2013 in supporting Decade of Action by WHO.
Ir. Ts. Dr. Abd. Rahim Abu Talib started his career at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1998 as a tutor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering. In 2007, he was appointed as the Head of Department of Aerospace Engineering and in 2009, as the Deputy Dean (Academic, Student Affair’s and Industry Relation) at the Faculty of Engineering. He has published more than 50 citation index journals and 60 conference papers, 11 books and chapter in books, 8 articles in professional magazine, leading 17 research projects and holds 4 product patents IP in Malaysia as well as international. Three of his innovation products have been succesfully commercialized. Dr. Abd. Rahim holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, an honours degree in Aeronautical Engineering from University of Salford, a registered Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate at the Board of Engineers Malaysia and currently the vice president of the Malaysian Society of Engineering and Society (MySET). He also a panel accreditation member for Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). He served as the Quality Committee member for the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 2007 and also involved in the working committee under the Engineering and Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC) for Sydney and Dublin Accords
Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim-Nadiir Bheekhun was born in Mauritius. He studied at The University of Glasgow towards a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Aeronautical Engineering from 2007 to 2011. He then pursued his doctoral degree, with specialisation in Aerospace Engineering at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) while collaborating with The University of Limoges. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in 2017. Dr. Nadiir is a Senior Lecturer of Aeronautics at the Management & Science University (MSU), Malaysia since 2018 and is the leader of the Aerospace & Communication Technology Research Group. His primary interest is aerogel-driven technologies. Whilst his area of expertise is aero-propulsion systems’ thermal management and fire protection, he is also conducting research on aviation sustainability and engineering education. He is versed in Aerospace Quality Management Systems, that is, AS9100 which is a benchmark for auditing the aerospace industry. He has participated in various international conferences and published research papers, book chapters and articles in professional magazines ranging from technical to pedagogy. Till date, Dr. Nadiir has jointly secured two grants by the Malaysian Government amounting to USD 40,000. He is an Associate Member at the Malaysian Society of Engineering (MySET) & Technology and Aerospace Society Malaysia (AEROS). To enhance the regional and global prominence of Africa’s aerospace education and technical capabilities, he founded AeroNAD Ltd in his home country, Mauritius in 2017. Under his direction, a division of the organisation, AERONAD+®, has been offering sustainable engineering solutions using CFD/FEA technologies since then. A second division is presently being implemented, which is a transformative aviation academia namely Aviationia® which will deliver tailored aviation programmes and EASA-accredited training to meet the imperative demand for skilled personnel of aviation in the region and beyond. Dr. Nadiir undertakes operational/strategic management responsibilities at AeroNAD Ltd.
Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), who currently holds the position of Head for the Materials and Processing Laboratory, Institute of Advanced Technology (ITMA), UPM. Her research interests revolve around synthesis, processing and characterization of various nanomaterials namely carbon nanostructures. Her research has also extended into the use of nanomaterials for a variety of applications such as high performance nanocomposites (polymers and concrete), supercapacitors, nanosensors and more recently nanoagriculture. She was the recipient of the UPM Vice Chancellor Fellowship Award in Teaching (Engineering Category) 2016 and has increased interest in the area of immersive learning for nanotechnology courses as well as engineering education. She is active in activities carried out by UPM’s Centre for Academic Excellence and continues to play and important role as an advocate in the scholarship for teaching and learning.
Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Rubita Sudirman received her Bachelor and Master degrees of Electrical Engineering from the University of Tulsa, USA and her Ph.D. in from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in the same field. Currently she is an associate professor, certified professional engineer, P.Eng (Board of Engineers Malaysia), a Chartered Engineer, C.Eng (Institution of Engineeing and Technology, UK), a senior member IEEE and serving at the School of Electrical Engineering, Univerisit Teknologi Malaysia. Her current research interests include Applications of Soft Computing in Biomedical Engineering particularly in Speech Processing, EEG & EOG signal analysis, medical electronics, and rehabilitation engineering. She has published in more than 100 publications, supervised students in all levels from undergraduate to Doctor of Philosophy. In research, she has secured more than 20 grants as project leader. Other than publication, the outcome of the research are book chapters, research book, patents and copyrights. She also published 2 books on electronics, one of them was awarded on its popularity and a chapter in IGI Global Handbook of Solar Radiation which is indexed in Scopus and Thomson Reuters.
Dr. Eng. Zulkarnaini is a lecturer at the Departement of Environmental Engineering, Universitas Andalas, which started in 2009. In 2011, he joined to Center for Environmental Studies and Indonesian Society of Sanitary and Environmental Engineers. He is active in many environmental protection activities and also a consultant in wastewater treatment. He got his doctoral degree in 2018 from Kanazawa University, Japan. As a member of the international associate membership of Japan Society on Water Environment (JSWE), he introduced new technologies application in wastewater treatment in Indonesia. His research interest around wastewater treatment, including chemical and biological processes. Nowadays, he develops research about anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) for nitrogen removal in various wastewater treatment facilities in Indonesia. Also, in searching with new species of bacteria in the environment to isolate, cultivate, and apply for wastewater treatment that collaborated with Kanazawa University.
